VENUS, EVE and THE ABSINTHE DRINKER

A new series of paintings, partly autobiographical, partly inspired by iconic images of women from art history.

Venus , the Goddess of love, is transformed into Eve the fallen woman by the Christian church, and the story goes that the path down from Paradise to Montmartre was lined with wormwood ..........

My own experience of "the Green Fairy " in a Japanese restaurant in Spain inspired absinthe coloured dreams and a painting slightly less dismal than the Degas original.
